简介：Genistinisanisoflavonefoundinanumberofdietaryplantslikesoyandkudzu.Itwasfirstisolatedin1931fromthe90%methanolextractofasoybeanmeal,whenitwasfoundthathydrolysiswithhydrochloricacidproduced1moleeachofgenisteinandglucose.Chemicallyitisthe7-O-beta-D-glucosideformofgenisteinandisthepredominantformoftheisoflavonenaturallyoccurringinplants.InfactStudiesinthe1970srevealedthat99%oftheisoflavonoidcompoundsinsoyarepresentastheirglucosides.Theglucosidesareconvertedbydigestiveenzymesinthedigestivesystemtoexerttheirbiologicaleffects.Genistinisalsoconvertedtoamorefamiliargenistein,thus,thebiologicalactivitiesincludingantiatherosclerotic,estrogenicandanticancereffectsareanalogous.
