简介：Solketalisaprotectedformofglycerolwithanisopropylideneacetalgroupjoiningtwoneighboringhydroxylgroups.Solketalcontainsachiralcenteronthecentercarbonoftheglycerolbackbone,andsocanbepurchasedaseithertheracemateorasoneofthetwoenantiomers.Solketalhasbeenusedextensivelyinthesynthesisofmono-,di-andtriglyceridesbyesterbondformation.Thefreehydroxylgroupsofsolketalcanbeesterifiedwithacarboxylicacidtoformtheprotectedmonoglyceride,wheretheisopropylenegroupcanthenberemovedusinganacidcatalystinaqueousoralcoholicmedium.Theunprotecteddiolcanthenbeesterifiedfurthertoformeitherthedi-ortriglyceride.
