简介：ClothianidinisaninsecticidedevelopedbyTakedaChemicalIndustriesandBayerAG.Similartothiamethoxamandimidacloprid,itisaneonicotinoid.Neonicotinoidsareaclassofinsecticidesthatarechemicallysimilartonicotine,whichhasbeenusedasapesticidesincethelate1700s.Clothianidinandotherneonicotinoidsactonthecentralnervoussystemofinsectsasanagonistofacetylcholine,theneurotransmitterthatstimulatesnAChR,targetingthesamereceptorsite(AChR)andactivatingpost-synapticacetylcholinereceptorsbutnotinhibitingAChE.Clothianidinandotherneonicotinoidsweredevelopedtolastlongerthannicotine,whichismoretoxicandwhichbreaksdowntooquicklyintheenvironment.However,studiespublishedin2012showthatneonicotinoiddustreleasedatplantingtimemaypersistinnearbyfieldsforseveralyearsandbetakenupintonon-targetplants,whicharethenforagedbybeesandotherinsects.;Clothianidinisanalternativetoorganophosphate,carbamate,andpyrethroidpesticides.Itposeslowerriskstomammals,includinghumans,whencomparedtoorganophosphatesandcarbamates.Ithashelpedpreventinsectpestsbuildupresistancetoorganophosphateandpyrethroidpesticides.
